More Than 45k Pounds of Electronics Collected During Annual Earth Day Recycling Event

April 29, 2024

Every year on Earth Day, communities come together to do their part for the planet. This year, Georgia Natural Gas®, eWaste ePlanet, WXIA and Lenox Square joined forces for the fourth year in a row for our Annual Earth Day Electronics Recycling Event at Lenox Square.

The event was a major win, collecting 45,750 pounds of electronics that will be reused or recycled. This is a significant amount of e-waste that will be diverted from landfills, where it can leak harmful toxins into the soil and water.

“Georgia Natural Gas (GNG) is excited to have exceeded our goals for the 2024 Earth Day Recycling project; however, our commitment to the environment isn't limited to just one day - it's something we live and breathe every single day," said Maurice Baker, Community Relations Manager for GNG. "Throughout the year, we’re committed to investing our time and resources into organizations and initiatives that are making a real, tangible impact on the planet we all share —creating a greener, more sustainable future for Georgia."

In addition to the environmental benefits, recycling electronics also has economic benefits. The materials that are recovered from old electronics can be used to make new products.

“The team here at eWaste ePlanet is proud of Atlanta for showing out in a big way this past Saturday to celebrate Earth Day," said Rob Pyecha, VP of Business Development for eWaste ePlanet. "This was our largest collection event with GNG to date! We are now tasked with keeping all 45,753 pounds of electronics out of the landfill. Through R2v3-Certified processes including sorting, dismantling, refurbishing, and recycling, we will fulfill our promise of 100% data security & 0% landfill for every electronic device collected. Thank you to the volunteers from Georgia Natural Gas, Simon Properties, and 11Alive News who helped make such a positive environmental impact with us!”

If you missed the Earth Day electronics recycling event, don't worry! eWaste ePlanet will take your electronics throughout the year.

Thanks again to everyone who made the event such a success! Hope to see you at a future event.
