We’re adding a new project to Greener Life!
With the help of Georgia Natural Gas® customers, we have offset more than 150,000,000 pounds of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere with Greener Life®. Now we’re investing in even more projects to keep that momentum going!
Participation in the Greener Life program has helped support projects that increase the number of trees in forests and convert landfill emissions into renewable energy. We will continue to support these efforts, but now we’re including recycling of Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, HFC refrigerants can have an impact up to 1,430 times worse than carbon dioxide.
So how does this project work? The A-Gas V5 Voluntary Emission Reduction Project collects HFCs from old appliances in your everyday life - like refrigerators or air conditioning units - and reclaims them. Once these HFCs have been purified and treated by a recovery process, they can be reused in brand new refrigeration and cooling equipment. This process lowers the demand to produce more and as a result, slows the amount of new HFCs created, ensuring sustainable consumption and production.
Join the thousands of Georgians already enrolled in Greener Life and feel good knowing your natural gas usage has net-zero impact on the environment. Teamwork makes the green work!
As Georgia’s natural gas leader in protecting the environment, we’re always looking for new ways to expand our impact. Through your partnership in Greener Life, we’re able to support these HFC emission reduction projects while continuing to support our forests and reduce landfill emissions.
The greenhouse gas emissions being offset by this service are those associated with the combustion of natural gas at the point of consumption only, and do not include lifecycle emissions that occur during extraction, production, or delivery. Each carbon offset represents the reduction of one ton of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions. The offsets GNG purchases for the Greener Life program come from a mix of projects that have been validated and registered under the high-quality standards of the Climate Action Reserve and the American Carbon Registry.
